Menu Planning Mayhem!

What exactly is Menu Planning Mayhem? Well, let me tell you! Each week, Desiring Virtue is going to provide you with the opportunity to link up your weekly menu plan to share with its readers. You might be wondering why you would want to do such a thing so I am going to give you two really great reasons:

1. Accountability

Menu planning is one of those really important and really helpful things you can do in order to keep your grocery budget in line as well as keep your sanity around 4pm when decisions need to be made about dinner. Sharing your meal plan with Desiring Virtue’s readers may give you that extra push to get it done and reap the benefits.

2. Collect Menu Plans

By sharing your menu plan with Desiring Virtue’s readers you can give others inspiration as well as benefit from the many plans shared here. You may already publish your menu plan on your personal blog, but by linking up here, we can all share in each other’s hard work! In the future, we may try to spice things up by requesting certain themed menus, but for now, feel free to link up any weekly menu your family enjoys.

So by now, I hope you are thinking, “That sounds great!” Well, if you are in, here is how it will work. Every Saturday I will post my family’s menu and provide a place for you to link up your blog post through the Linky tool. If you do not have a blog, then you can feel free to share your menu as a comment on the Menu Planning Mayhem post. Don’t be left out just because you don’t have a blog; others will be able to enjoy your menu simply by scrolling down the page!

If you are using a recipe found online, be sure to link to the original web page so that other’s can replicate it.

Don’t do your menu planning on Saturdays? That is ok, as soon as you have made your plan for the week, come on over to the Menu Planning Mayhem post and link up! There will be a new opportunity every Saturday and each Mayhem linky will stay open all week.

  • (x2) Breakfast Burritos (Make big batch and freeze)
  • (x2) Amish Oatmeal and Fruit (Cut up left overs and store for rest of week)
  • (x2) French Toast (Make extra and freeze)
  • Cereal and fruit


  • Grilled Cheese and Soup
  • Quesadillas
  • (x2) Chicken Nuggets, Carrot Sticks, Grapes
  • Mac ‘n Cheese w/peas and ham
  • Lunch out as family
  • Lunch with parents


  • Hamburgers

  1. What a great idea! I only have dinners for the next couple of nights planned out. Breakfast and lunch are usually on the fly, with whatever we have on hand.

    So, my dinners for now until Thursday are:

    chicken, rice and broccoli
    panko-crusted fish with rice and soy sauce eggs

    thrilling isn’t it?

    Your menu looks yummy though and I have to check out the other ladies’ links! This *is* a great idea.

  2. I tend to have more of a menu “general idea” rather than a more formal menu plan chart. I actually just posted to explain how I do it on my blog, but wasn’t sure it was the kind of thing you wanted on the linky. Theme weeks sound fun, though. I’ll have to sharpen my planning skills to play along with those!

  3. I usually plan my menu on Thursday night so I can go to the store on Friday afternoon before I get my girls from school. It also allows us to have fresh fruit and a plan for the weekend. Before, we ran out of fresh food by the weekend and ended up eating out a lot.
    My menu for the week is this:

    Stromboli – ham, onion, mushroom
    quinoa w/ black beans and Turkey burgers
    Avocado tostadas (Birthday girl’s choice)
    Pulled Chicken Sandwiches
    Club Salad

      Oh, I totally understand the “running out before the weekend and then eating out a lot”! I have to make sure to plan good stuff for those days or else I am setting myself up for failure!
